An agent can also appear on a blended offence if the Crown Prosecutor elects the summary mode of trial and the sentence is six months or less. An agent can not represent you or appear on your behalf for an Indictable Criminal Offence. Most minor criminal charges like Possession of Stolen Property, Assault and minor drug offences are Summary Matters and an agent can assist you. If the charge is more serious than this, it is suggested that you talk to duty counsel prior to your court appearance and then seriously consider retaining a trained criminal defense lawyer.
